Where does Dogshells get their eggshells?
We source and collect our eggshells from local vendors in the NYC area, chosen directly by our sourcing team for their use of fresh, high-quality ingredients and their commitment to the environment.
Should I be concerned about salmonella poisoning?
Our eggshells are properly cleaned and sanitized before being delivered to your door. Although salmonella poisoning is not as big of a risk to canines who have smaller digestive tracts, we take extra precaution to make sure those pesky bacterial organisms are killed before fed to your dog. Through our 7-step unique process, we clean the shells of any residual liquid and expose them to multiple rounds of high temperatures. We also sanitize our jars before packaging them up.
I feed dry pre-packaged food to my dog. Should I supplement with Dogshells?
Pre-packaged foods that are advertised as “balanced” and “complete” should already contain the appropriate levels of calcium. No need to supplement further, although we encourage you to use Dogshells if you want to experiment with occasional fresh-food meals or want to make the healthy switch.
Do I need to use Dogshells with vitamin D?
Vitamin D has been known to help with calcium absorption in the body. However, we get free vitamin D every day from our friendly sun. Take your dog for a walk after meal-time and make sure your dog gets plenty of sun. If you live in a region where you don’t get much sun, try a small drop of pure cod liver oil with Dogshells or feed cooked salmon with Dogshells.
I own a food business and want to recycle my high-quality eggshells. How can I become a supplier?
That’s great! We’d love to talk to you about setting up a recycling program at your location and promoting you as one of our environmentally-responsible suppliers. Send us an email or give us a call and we’ll get back to you promptly. Currently, we’re only set-up to collect in the NYC area but we intend to branch out soon.
